From the street:
As Portlanders retreat to their homes, the night clears safe passage for those cannot. However, growing homeless population is becoming an even greater issue. Smashing the windows of unoccupied buildings, (those closed prior to Cov-19) by daring scavengers. A window of a high end cycle store around the corner of my hotel is cracked enough to easily break, I am tempted but I won’t go in unless it’s open. Even then, it may only be to protect the store.
I think there are new people here or the drugs have increased while those who do them are forced outdoors. The level of hunger shows and a man go from person to person asking for “black”. The shutdown of mass transit could be possible as this is becoming a regular, people “high” and drunk in public spaces at night.
The hunger I saw in Seattles homeless is rising here. Portland is not ready for that type of surge, even with the growing security and police patrolling.
The reasons Portland is wired is clear on nights like these… Portland is intoxicated all the time, coffee and dope, the high strung and the slow flow dragging it’s belly across the street. Dancing in the street because the high is just too damn good. Prostitution is rising too. There’s a woman (or man) on the train right now, with her fake breast boosted up so high in a skin tight baby blue t-shirt they overshadow her safety mask and her nipples poke out like pens.. she seems to have a tweeker twitch but I could be wrong … Everyone loves and can’t help but to stare at a pair of augmented comical sized tits.
If you’re not worried yet, you should be, because you have friends and family out here with me and all it takes is for one to lose his or her grip in a space where many can see or one… With a plan and taste for civil disobedience and destruction.
