What are we doing America? I wonder if we really know… While I think it beautiful that we are beginning to open our eyes, I still think we are missing a very important issue.
I’m proud of you all, the world over but if we cannot see the root of our problems I don’t see a real “change” in our experience. Sure, I want to focus on police brutality but that’s not the issue. There are screwed up people everywhere, that’s unavoidable but now we can curb that by facing it and deal with that by understanding that we as civilians ask too much of them; that includes our officials who make them into bounty hunters, revenue chaser’s and mediators. Shit, we ask and expect too much from one another.
We should have the ability to direct them as to which function we need from them at any given time. Their job is to serve and protect, not to enforce… We don’t need enforcement… We need education and counseling. I don’t believe that every driver should be forced to pay a fine for speeding unless it is reckless or criminal and some mediation is necessary but every person shouldn’t be hauled off to jail for a domestic disturbance. The courts should not be involved with our day to day lives. We should have the right to say “officer please stand down”.
I don’t think it’s fair that we put so much misinterpreted authority into their hands.
Now what I really believe is that we have a serious issue with education, health & mental care and the way we perceive history.
We can’t change history, no matter the statues we take down, nor should we forget it but if we own it and change the negatives. It can be empowering.
For example… We all know the atrocities that come from any war and the assimilation of a society. We are past all that now or we could be… These turned out to be necessary evils for progress as human beings. Look at all we’ve done as a species. These things may not have been had not for those actions. NOW IM NOT SAYING FOR FORGET IT. IM SAYING, WHILE WE RECOGNIZE THE SHIT FILLED DESTRUCTION OF OUR LIFE WE ADD HOW WE SURVIVED, TRANSFORMED AND SHOWN THAT YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE SPIRIT FROM THE BLOOD, OR THE CULTURE UNIQUE TO ITS PEOPLE. BLACK HISTORY IS AMERICAN HISTORY. THAT MAKES AMERICA BLACK. WHEN WE CLAIM AMERICA AND SIT WITH RESPECT TO THE INDIGENOUS BEFORE US… WE CLAIM THOSE LIVES AND FAMILIAR. THIS IS WHY BLACK LIVES MATTER, THIS IS WHY WE ARE HERE. THIS IS HOW WE BRING ALL GOD HOUSES BACK TOGETHER AND BREAK THE CURSE THAT SEPARATED US. THIS IS ACHIEVABLE THROUGH US.
Everyone wants to focus on the bad but infact we are repeating those very acts by acting out violently. If we own the terrible past and pay our due respect to all those lives lost we could lift our spirits to a higher ground of conscious and morality.
Holidays to recognize the lives who’s fighting paved the way for modern day thinking and the idea of nationhood. Giving respect to those fought against change. Claiming America now as OUR OWN does that. To not do that is disrespectful and dishonorable to those who fought for and against progress. That’s not saying it wasn’t wrong but owning it, give us the opportunity to grow from it. I believe this is a very special time, a mystery yet to be as we write a new composition for our future.
There is much pain and sorrow that we hold on to, that many haven’t yet explored or faced. We all need that closure. I believe we can do this by learning from our past and not being shamed by it.
There is much more to be said but this is where we start. If you haven’t already read “the Vision” please do.
